For this Matryoshka Doll design, my goal was to celebrate the intricate craftsmanship and cultural significance of Russian nesting dolls in an engaging and educational way. As a Russian adoptee, this project held personal meaning, allowing me to connect with my roots and tell a cultural story through thoughtful design. The design simplifies the complex creation process into a step-by-step visual guide, showcasing stages like sourcing materials, shaping wood, hand-painting, and assembling the dolls. Neutral colors and clean, minimalist lines ensure the focus remains on the artistry without distraction. Key elements, such as stylized figures and red and blue tones, reflect Russian cultural motifs while balancing tradition with a modern aesthetic. The design also highlights the dolls' symbolism of generational unity and interconnectedness, with each nested doll representing layers of family and heritage. This symbolism resonates with my personal journey of exploring my cultural identity. By blending storytelling with design, I aimed to make the craftsmanship and deeper meaning of Matryoshka dolls accessible and visually compelling.
